    As The Season Nears...

Saturday, August 9, 2008, 11:17 PM EST [General]

I haven't bowled since June and I'm beginning to wonder if I remember how. I'm sure I do. I took an entire year off from bowling once and my very first game back was a 279. It's weird how that happens, isn't it?

I got the phone message saying that my league is picking teams on Tuesday. I don't know when the season actually starts but I'll be ready, with or without practice. Besides, it's just for fun... right? ...Right? Anyone?

I'm hoping for the same team I had last year, but time will tell. My main concern is that I can bowl the entire season. I'm entering a new school this season so it will be interesting to see how things work out. I'll keep everyone updated!

    I Finally Practiced!

Friday, June 13, 2008, 11:17 AM EST [Practice]

I threw a bowling ball (well, my ball, anyway) for the first time in about a month or so the other day. I went to Town & Country Lanes to get some practice in before the Bowling & Golf Outing this Saturday.

I practiced shooting 10-pins and ball placement mostly. However, the lanes are obviously being flooded for the summer and it was difficult to practice my usual style. I threw in mostly from the gutter, i.e. the extreme Norm Duke!

Providing the alley puts an actual pattern down for the tournament, I'll probably be throwing my Red Alert, but who knows. I tend to need a different ball every time I bowl there.

As for the weather, I keep hoping that Saturday will be nice but the forecasts seem to worsen by the day. It went from being sunny last week to isolated thunder storms today. Hopefully things go smooth.

I'll post a recap in a few days!

    Bowling & Golf Outing

Monday, June 2, 2008, 04:56 PM EST [General]

I haven't posted in a while so I thought I'd give a little heads-up on what to expect. Well... pretty much nothing!

I've been trying to rack up some hours at work before I take my first steps into Moravian College. I haven't bowled in about three weeks or so. I have, however, been trying to golf at least once each week.

On Saturday, June 14th, I'll be participating in Town & Country Lanes' traditional Bowling & Golf Outing. They usually do two or three each summer and I always partner up with my dad, who happens to golf every day. I take care of the bowling and he takes care of the golf and we usually finish somewhere in the middle, lol.

The tournament involves three games of bowling and a round of golf - each is a scramble (best ball). It's a really fun day with little pressure to win. With the entry fee comes open bar for drafts and tons of good food at the bowling alley - tough to top that!

I just hope it doesn't rain!

I'm gonna head out to the lanes once or twice before the tournament and will let everyone know how my practice sessions went. I'll also post how we finished in the tournament.

I hope everyone is enjoying their break from bowling. For those doing summer leagues, best of luck to ya!

Tuesday Night Nats - Final Standings

Sunday, May 18, 2008, 11:57 AM EST [General]

Before proceeding with the results, I thought I'd share a little bit about the league. We bowl every Tuesday night around 6PM at the National Sokals, also known as "The Nats," hence the name of our league the Tuesday Night Nats (also known as TNN). The league consists of six teams of four bowlers. There is no handicap and teams are picked through a draft to keep scores as equal and fair as possible.

With that being said, here are the 2007-08 results:

    Team Stats & Recognition:
    -2nd Place Finish Overall
    -81 Points (out of a possible 128, 4 points possible p/night)
-3rd High Team Game (853, read about the night here.)
-3rd High Team Series (2,379 for 3 games)

    Individual Stats & Recognition:
    -3rd High Game (278)
    -3rd High Average (204.62)

    Game 1 Average: 202.16
    Game 2 Average: 209.68
    Game 3 Average: 202.03

High Series: 698 (This still upsets me because I did a bunch of 700's that weren't sanctioned. The night that I bowled this series can be read about here.)

For our league's card game, I won 12 pots total, six in each half. Nobody won with a straight flush or a pair (thankfully), but there was one five-of-a-kind.

I'm not going to share any of the prize funds or financial information, but I will say that I was happy in the end.

I'll be posting periodically over the summer. The new season will begin in early September. Good luck to all you summer hackers! Feel free and encouraged to keep in touch!

    League Night - 4/29/08 - THE END

Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 12:03 AM EST [League]

Tonight was the last night of bowling, and as I mentioned last week, the scores don't matter because my team has already clinched 2nd place. Regardless, our league still had a positioning round and my team played the first place team, and we kicked their behinds (sorry, BowlSpace censors curse words)! Tonight was probably the most fun I've had all year, despite the pain... I'll explain in a litte...

The first game was the only game I left an open frame in. I chopped a spare on the right side, but no biggie - I still shot a 210.

The second game was my best. It came down to the captains in this game and I came through by striking out for a 234.

The third game is when it got interesting. I made the 4-9 split early in the game. In the fitfth frame, I either threw out my back or pulled a muscle. The pain was sharp and it still hurts as I'm typing this. I wasn't about to give up and continued to bowl on, despite the fact that I couldn't bend and was bowling like I had a stick up my butt (sorry, censored again). A couple of frames later I made the 2-4-10 split. I ended the game with a 203 and my team finished with a new high total series for the season.

I finished with a 647 and half a bottle of Jack Daniels. I didn't have any money for drinks but a few of the guys in the league took a couple bucks from their pot winnings and bought me some drinks. They're a great bunch!

    But...

That's it for the season. I'll probably have a couple of posts between now and my banquet (May 13th), so until then...
