Comparing Bowling Balls - Black Widow Pearl

Sunday, March 30, 2008, 11:04 AM EST [Equipment]

The ball I throw most is my Freak-A-Zoid by Track; anyone reading my Bowlspace often enough already knows that. The first time I threw it I managed a 289 and it has since been my favorite.

The ball works great on almost any wood-lane condition and medium oil conditions on synthetic lanes, however, it really depends on how far the oil pattern goes. The ball was, as I've been reading, designed to travel an extra few feet before hooking back. Anyone who has thrown the ball can see that's obvious.

The ball I've been looking into now is the Black Widow Pearl by Hammer. My real question is how it compares to the Freak-A-Zoid.

If anyone has this ball, or has thrown this ball, please give me your insight. I'd really like to get a comparison, but any feedback is welcome.

A Lighter Ball For Dry Lanes?

Thursday, May 10, 2007, 01:01 PM EST [Equipment]

All the equipment I use is 16lbs. But I've been considering purchasing a lighter ball for dry lanes. Here's the situation:

When the lanes are dry at the private club I bowl at, there really isn't much I can do. The ball return, as mentioned in previous posts, sticks up out of the ground on the approach. When on the right lane, it's impossible to stand over to the left to through a huge hook, which is my style for a dry lane.

I was thinking that if I were to throw a 15lb. instead, I might have a better shot at hitting pockets. Is this logical, or will the hook be just as strong?

Please, let me know what you think.

    Using A Thumb Slug

Monday, March 5, 2007, 03:13 PM EST [Equipment]

While I was bowling in the 64th U.S. Open, the inside of my thumb hole of my Freak-A-Zoid ball began to chip a little.  When I returned home I decided to go out and practice on the conditions I'm use to and it began to chip even more. So, I took it in to be repaired. Now, for the first time ever, I'm using a slug.

I wasn't sure how I would do using a slug. I've never used them before in any of my balls. Today, after I picked it up, I took it out for a few practice games. My scores were as follows: 200, 194, 227, 222, 217, 239. Not bad, eh?

I found that using the slug not only let me grip the ball better, but it helped my accuracy upon my release. I think for now I'm only going to use a slug in my Freak-A-Zoid. But, the next time I buy a new ball, I think I'll have one put in at purchase.
