    League Night - 11/6/07

Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 12:58 PM EST [League]

It was a night of mechanical failures. I can't believe I bowled as well as I did.

I wrote down my scores this time, so they are 100% accurate:

    Game 1: 236
    Game 2: 222
    Game 3:
    216

    TOTAL: 674

I bowled on lanes 1 and 2 this week. The problem occurred during the first game when lane 2 basically died. After about 15 minutes of waiting, after bowling 4 strikes in-a-row to start the game, the decision was made to just bowl on lane 1. It's only a 6-lane house, so the options are limited. We only did this for about 3-4 frames, With a couple of frames to go, lane 2 was resuscitated and the usual flow restarted.

Though the lane was working again, the damage was done and an uneven lane pattern now existed between the two lanes. However, it didn't impact me as much as I would have thought. It was fairly easy to adjust to and turned out pretty decent in the end.

One thing still baffles me, though; I left a pocket 8-10 split in the second game. I don't think I'll ever figure it out. A bad bounce somewhere?

My team, overall, only won 1 of 4 points. Games 1 and 2 came down to the captains (me and my evil opponent.) In the tenth frame of the 1st game, I needed a strike on my first ball. I left a 10-pin and made the spare, but our team lost by a few pins.

In the tenth frame of the second game, it was the same predicament. This time I nailed the first two strikes for the victory. The third game we lost by about 60 pins or so.

Even with the mechanical failures and long waiting periods, it turned out for the best and was fun night to say the least. Additionally, there were hot dogs on the rollers which always puts me in a good mood!

    Catch ya next week!

    League Night - 10/30/07

Wednesday, October 31, 2007, 01:33 PM EST [League]

I was sick and my back was still hurting, so it's amazing I bowled what I did. Again I took some Tylenol immediately before practice, but this week added some nasal spray and Dayquil to the equation. It seemed to work quite well.

I don't remember what all my scores were, but the third game (I think) was a 211, and my series total was a 682. My team won all four games and we are now tied for first!

I threw my Zone Red Alert once again, and will continue to do so until the lane condition changes. I've been throwing my Freak-A-Zoid for left-side spares, and my cheap plastic ball for right-side spares. The trio-combo seems to be working quite well on the old wooden lanes.

I needed a 229 for a 700-series, but I really didn't care. The team was ahead in the third game by over 100 pins so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try a couple of different approaches to find out what does and doesn't work (in case I need to change my line in the future.) The different approaches worked out fairly well, and I still bowled a decent game. I think it was a smart decision. These opportunities don't come around too often and I think it's important to take advantage of them while you can!

That's all I got for now. Good luck next week everyone!

    League Night - 10/23/07

Thursday, October 25, 2007, 01:48 AM EST [League]

I didn't post my scores last week because I had twisted my back in the second frame of the first game. My scores were horrible and it was stupid of me to even continue to bowl. If I were smart, I would have let my average take over.

I thought the injury would heal itself, but it didn't. Thankfully, a couple days off of work allowed me to somewhat relax. I knew I was going to be in some pain at the alley so I took some over-the-counter pain killers immediately before practice. This helped hide the pain and allowed me to flex a little bit more.

The first game, I wasn't bowling good at all. I was afraid of hurting my back more and didn't know what I was doing wrong. I asked a friend, who I happened to be bowling against, what exactly my problem was. He told me in a simple sentence that I wasn't following through with my ball, and was releasing the ball short which was causing it to snap more. I think I was doing this because it didn't hurt my back as much and was simply an injury habbit.

I snapped out of that immediately and the first ball with my new (or returned) swing was a strike! Although it was too late for my score, I did correct the problem. That's probably the last time my friend gives me advice, while bowling against him anyway.

With that being said, here are my scores (only the first game and series total are accurate. The 2nd and 3rd game may be off a pin or two.)

    Game 1: 146
    Game 2: 222
    Game 3: 246

    TOTAL: 614

I should also note that I brought three different strike balls with me in hopes of finding the easiest one to throw. After the advice from my friend, I decided on my oldest ball, my Zone Red Alert SE. It worked out perfect!

Summing up the night, it felt good to bowl good again, even while hurt. The first game did suck, but I still managed a six and for that I am proud of myself. Hopefully I can pull it together for some 700's (like I did over the summer!)

    League Night - 10/9/07

Wednesday, October 10, 2007, 11:18 PM EST [League]

Wow, what an odd night. The high averages bowled low games, and the low averages bowled high games.  There was even a leak on lane 6 when it started raining! If it wasn't cloudy, it might have been a full moon! I dunno.

I bowled a 168,171, 236 in order, for a 575 series total. I think my only problem tonight was that I wasn't throwing the ball hard enough. Perhaps I was just tired.

In the first game, I kept hitting high on the head, or crossing over. For the second game I took much of the spin off the ball and began hitting light, or not hitting at all. But then, for the third game, I went completely clean. I guess sometimes it just takes a while to figure it out. Or, maybe, the lane just broke down to my liking.

I was also able to get my hands on a league sheet...

Going into this week, our team was in third place with 13.5 wins and 6.5 losses. After this week, we are 14.5 and 9.5. We still remain in third place, but the team needs to pick things up a bit. I blame myself for not hitting average, which would have guaranteed at least one more win on the night.

Also, my average going into the week was a 206.6. It's going to drop a little bit, but I should be able to pull it up again next week. The high average in the league is currently a 211.5.  Nobody has been consistant thus far, but it's still early.

That's all I got for now. Till next week...

League Recap: The Past Two Weeks

Saturday, October 6, 2007, 04:07 PM EST [League]

My apologies for not blogging my scores for the past two weeks. As I don't remember my individual game scores, I do recall my series scores (I think) ...

    Tuesday, September 25th:
Game 1 and Game 2 were both decently over 200. It was a night going fairly good, but Game 3 took care of any positives me and my team might have had. For some reason, I kept marking (mostly strikes) on lane 5, but lane six was giving me hell. I couldn't figure it out and finished the game somewhere in the 170's. My series total was a 594. I still haven't a clue as to why I couldn't figure out lane six all of a sudden.

    Tuesday, October 2nd:
I'll just say quick that my overall series was a 638, but it's not as great as it sounds. The first game was difficult. It took my whole team the entire game to figure out the lane pattern, but I still managed to finish in the 190's. The second game, however, was awesome! I believe I finished in the 250s, possibly a 257. I think I had 9 strikes this game.

The third game was the notable one. I had 4 open frames and no spares, but I did have a bunch of strikes. For such a horrible game, I finished with a 187. Normally I'd be upset, but not this time. Given the circumstances, I believe it's a notable score, lol. Not a good score, but worthy nonetheless.

I'll give a standings update next week, if I remember to bring home the league sheet. I hope everyone else is holding their own!
